๐ How much could I save with extreme meal planning?
๐ Current Habits
[-] There's a famous challenge by Frugal Fit Mom where she slashed her budget completely. As JC Rodriguez puts it, she decided to only use $30 to feed her whole family for an entire week. So, if you're taking six people times three meals a day for 7 days in a week, that is 126 meals.
As JC Rodriguez adds, this is literally 24 cents per meal throughout this entire week. To figure out your baseline, The Frugal Rich needs to know your current grocery spend and how many meals you eat at home. Most people are shocked when they calculate their true current cost per meal.
๐ Extreme Budget Goals
[-] As JC Rodriguez asks, do you think in 2025 we could still feed a family of six for an entire week with only $30? Well, based off prices nowadays, The Frugal Rich thinks no. He points out a 10 lb bag of chicken leg quarters today. They are $7.72.
He also notes three dozen eggs look like they are now costing $8, which is a little more than double the price back in 2020. Aiming for $0.75 to $1.50 per meal is a realistic extreme target today. As JC Rodriguez recalls, back when he was growing up, every Sunday would be their leftover day... That's how they avoided food waste each week.
