📋 Should I buy a gas or diesel truck?

I constantly get asked by guys whether they should buy a gas or diesel truck. As a diesel shop owner, I'll tell you straight up: buying a diesel is expensive like owning a BMW. As Arnie points out, I'm a diesel shop my truck has a gas right. We need to look at your purchase price and how many miles you drive to see if MPG efficiency offsets the initial price tag over a 5-year period.

Diesel engines often get slightly better fuel economy, but the fuel itself usually costs more per gallon. A 2012 Vincentric study found that when all costs are considered over 5 years driving 15,000 miles annually, diesels cost $1,203 more than their gas counterparts.

A gas motor will pull your trailer, but your fuel mileage will be horrible and you'll go really slow up hills. As Arnie points out, if you tell me you have a big toy hauler and you go out quite often you need a diesel.

Diesel maintenance is expensive, just like owning a luxury car. As Arnie notes, it's not just the oil change you got to put a fuel filter in it sometimes there's two depending on what it is sometimes there's a separator.

Emissions systems are notoriously costly. EGR course fail right they get hot-cold hot-cold hot-cold and they fail that's a big price but then you know DPF parts those are expensive. As Arnie asks, how many times did you go to the lake they tell me how many times a year and tells me you need a gas truck you don't need a diesel.
