The Power of the Spreadsheet
What exactly is a FinFam View?
At first glance, it looks like an blog post, with text, images, and links. Scrolling we see input fields: A View is interactive. But the real magic is under the hood: a View is actually a spreadsheet.
Views are built on top XLSX source format, meaning you can create and edit them using the tools you already know: Google Sheets, Excel, or LibreOffice. No more learning to code to develop an interactive calculator.
Better yet, published Views can be open-sourced, allowing financial models to be reviewable, forkable, and improvable by the community. Users can check the community’s math, eliminating the black box feeling often associated with financial planning.
Subscribe, Save, and Upgrade
When a user finds a View that answers a specific, actionable question they can save an instance of it to their planning space. Most spaces are private, but you can see a public example of a saved view here.
The best part? Saved views stay subscribed to the original view.
If you make a change, subscribers get a notification and, with the click of a button, they can upgrade to your latest insights, still complete with their personal values. This scales expert knowledge while embracing the fundamentals of human social trust, using interaction models proven by App Stores, GitHub, and Wikipedia.
