💼 How much would I save with a unit study instead of box curriculum based on my family size?

👨‍👩‍👧 Family Details

One of the beautiful things about homeschooling is that it can fit any budget it can range from over a thousand dollars to absolutely free. Deciding on the right curriculum style often comes down to how many kids you teach. This calculator compares the true costs of different educational approaches so you can figure out what makes the most financial sense for your specific family size.

📦 Box Curriculum

Box curriculums are incredibly convenient because they are open-and-go, but they charge full price per student. As Family Style Learning notes, overall you're looking at spending over a thousand dollars for an Abeka full year curriculum. This setup gets very expensive quickly if you have multiple children.

💻 Online School

Online options offer great independent learning and typically provide sibling discounts. As Family Style Learning puts it, the first child is gonna be $399 and then every additional child after that is $199 per student.

📚 Unit Studies

For larger families, unit studies are highly cost-effective because one digital download covers every grade level. As Family Style Learning notes, if you stick with the one lesson a day plan you would need 10 units within a school year and this would run you $550 a year not counting math.

You must supplement with individual math programs. As Family Style Learning points out, it runs about $50 a student for the school year and a lot of families end up using teaching textbooks.
